About the role of Maintenance Fitter

The Maintenance Fitter role is a critical role in the business having direct impacts on the safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing activities of the Ferndale Foods Australia, FoodLine Australia site.

The position is responsible for identifying and actioning opportunities to improve the overall manufacturing at the Foodline Australia site. This includes breakdown resolution, reactive and preventative maintenance and continuous improvement activities to increase the sites physical and food safety, machine reliability and efficiency.

Role duties

  • Attending to, and fault-finding breakdowns on equipment, repairing and adjusting as required by Site Manager.
  • Assist with line changeovers.
  • Preventative maintenance with a view to continuous improvement, including both planning and implementation to ensure longevity of equipment and to limit downtime on the production and packaging lines.
  • Complete Preventative Maintenance Program (PMP) as per schedule and report to Site Manager
  • Managing the spare parts and equipment within the business to ensure lines run at optimum efficiency while minimizing the costs and impact on the business associated with equipment breakdowns.
  • Training in all areas as required.
  • Project involvement and/or leading as required.
  • Simplify changeovers and develop SOP's (standard operating procedures) to enable operational team to support changeovers.
  • Where opportunities for improvement exist take the initiative to work with co-workers to improve systems of work.
  • Support the Site Manager in ensuring that site reflect the required standards of housekeeping and align with required GMP. Act on any GMP audit observations and any NCR's in a timely manner.
  • Constantly strive to action activities in line with worlds best practices and seek opportunities to improve.
  • Prepare or support reports and projects as required to support business outcomes.
  • Other duties as required.

Your experience, qualifications and attributes

  • Be a fully qualified tradesperson in any of Fitting and Turning, Mechanical or Engineering fields.
  • Have a safety-first approach in all activities.
  • Hold a strong technical understanding of relevant machine systems and processes
  • Have previous experience in automation and high-speed manufacturing processes.
  • Display a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Be a critical thinker and strong decision maker with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Have excellent time management and organisational skills and the ability to operate autonomously and self-initiate.
  • Demonstrate a positive team building style with strong communication skills.
  • An Electrical disconnect / reconnect ticket is highly regarded.
  • Experience in pneumatics, sensor technology is highly regarded.
  • Qualification or certification in food handling and hygiene standards advantageous, but not essential.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills including email, Word and Excel.
  • An expectation of reasonable overtime to meet the needs of the role as described above and be available as required for call-ins if necessary
