Workforce Extensions | Scoresby's client requires a Fitter for their workshop in Melbourne's Eastern Suburbs of Bayswater.

Position Overview:

The Workshop Fitter and Turner is responsible for the precision fitting, turning, and assembly of mechanical components used in a variety of machinery and systems. The role involves interpreting engineering drawings, working with a range of materials, and ensuring components are fabricated, assembled, and maintained to the highest standards of quality and safety. The Workshop Fitter and Turner will work closely with other workshop staff to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Precision Fitting and Machining:

Operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other precision machinery to fabricate and modify components.

Perform turning, milling, and grinding operations on metals and other materials to tight tolerances.

Maintenance and Repairs:

Diagnose mechanical problems and carry out repairs on mechanical equipment, machinery, and tools.

Assemble, disassemble, and test mechanical components.

Conduct regular maintenance checks on machinery and workshop equipment to ensure they are in safe working order.

Quality Control:

Inspect and measure workpieces to ensure they meet the required specifications and tolerances.

Maintain high-quality standards and provide detailed documentation of work performed.

Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions to improve processes.

Workshop Operations:

Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.

Collaborate with Supervisors, other fitters, and the production team to meet project timelines and quality standards.

Tool and Equipment Maintenance:

Maintain, repair, and ensure the correct calibration of workshop tools and machinery.

Keep accurate records of all tools and equipment used, and report any issues promptly.

Training and Development:

Mentor junior fitters and trainees in the use of workshop machinery and safety practices.

Continuously improve skills and knowledge through professional development and training.

Qualifications and Skills:

Trade qualification in Fitting and Turning (or equivalent).

Additional certifications in welding, machining, or CNC operation are advantageous.

Experience:

Proven experience as a Fitter and Turner or similar role, with a strong background in workshop operations and machinery maintenance.

Experience with CNC machines and other automated machinery is an advantage.

Working Conditions:

Ongoing casual with opportunity to go permanent. Day shift with standard working hours.

The role may require occasional overtime depending on project demands.

The workshop environment can be noisy and requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
