Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Draftsperson / CAD Designer to join our Design and Engineering Team in Tamworth, NSW. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in design within the manufacturing, fabrication or mechanical sectors. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting product design, innovation and delivering high quality designs, drawings and other documentation as required.

Your expertise in both reading and producing drawings and 3D CAD solutions, coupled with your ability to apply best practices and a methodical approach will be essential. You will be responsible for design of parts and products from concept to completion and the production of a full suite of detail and assembly drawings to enable the manufacture of our products.

Key Qualifications:

  • Certificate III in Engineering/Mechanical Drafting or equivalent is preferable.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks / Onshape / Inventor) with hands-on experience in design methodology and drawing production (Required).
  • Other engineering based qualifications may be an advantage.

  • Problem-Solving: Skilled in designing alternative solutions for parts and products with a focus on cost effective approaches.
  • Project Management: Experienced in managing multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Collaboration: Strong teamwork skills for working with engineers, project managers, and production / manufacturing teams.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to design, ensuring all solutions meet design intent, performance, safety, and compliance requirements.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly present designs and provide technical explanations to non-technical stakeholders. Fluent written and spoken English is essential.
  • Attitude: Proactive, team-oriented, and adaptable, with a positive outlook on change and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Design: Create detailed solutions for new products providing support through the full product lifecycle.
  • 2D and 3D CAD Solutions: Utilize good modelling principles and advanced 3D CAD software to prepare concepts, detail and assembly drawings, cut lists, and installation drawings to the highest standards.
  • Quality & Compliance: Ensure all product designs meet technical specifications, quality standards, Australian or other applicable standards, and are fit for purpose throughout the design process.
  • Processes & Procedures: Adhere to and uphold the established processes, procedures and policies to ensure consistency and efficiency in design work.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the improvement of design principles, processes, and procedures to enhance product quality and manufacturability to increase throughput.
  • Note: This list is not exhaustive, and the role may evolve as needed to meet the company's objectives.

Experience:

  • 2 years' experience in a similar role within the fabrication, manufacturing or mechanical sectors is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in CAD design and drafting or related field.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and / or Onshape CAD software is preferred (Inventor or similar CAD systems will be considered)
  • Knowledge of fabrication methods and processing using laser cutting and bending / folding to be incorporated in designs would be beneficial.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office.
